D. Glen Elrod, M.D.

I graduated cum laude from Wabash College in 1991, with a B.A. in Biology and then earned my M.D. from Indiana University in 1997. I completed my residency at Bethesda Hospital in Cincinnati, and after completing my residency, spent six years in the United States Air Force. I have been in private practice since 2007 and one of my greatest interests in practice is promoting, caring for, and assisting women with having successful VBAC's.

I began my journey into birth work with my own personal journey into motherhood- the birth of my first baby. I emerged from the experience as a mother, but with little feelings of positivity and empowerment. I took a look back at the events and my experience as a whole and realized that I had not been an educated, active participant in the birth of my baby. I thought to myself, “That was not the way it could have been or SHOULD have been. There has to be a better way!” I vowed that I would do things differently the next time around.

I began my journey that has led me to midwifery with the birth of my third son. Having another baby who was sick after a seemingly normal and healthy pregnancy I dove into research. I lost myself in PubMed, Evidence Based Birth, NCBI, and medical journal articles. I felt disenfranchised, uneducated and misinformed.
